  2. No wonder you can find so many insects to photograph - the transformation from botanical "wasteland" to "teeming with diversity" is incredible.

    Bravo!

  4. Everything looks so lush and dense, I'm so jealous! I know I must be a little crazy, but that pile of soil is the most gorgeous shade of dark brown, it looks so rich. We don't have anything like that around here, just shale or clay. Congratulations on having such a beautiful property.

  6. Hi Donna,
I love seeing photos of your garden too. It was fun to do a comparison this summer after we've had so much rain and growth.

  7. Hi Ellen,
Thanks for your comment. Yes I amazed at the amount of new insect visitors each year. I think as the landscape grows and matures, there are more places for habitat and as a result more insect predators arrive.

  8. Hi Sheila,
Yes it takes time for plants to mature and fill in but it's worth the wait.

  9. Hi Julie,
Yes it's a big pile of compost. We added it where we had removed plastic and stone mulch to rebuild the soil microorganisms.

  10. Thanks David
When I have openhouses I post before photos in the yard on signs. They have been a great educational tool.

  11. These photos are wonderful illustrations of all that be accomplished with a garden. It's really inspiring to see how much greenery the land supports now compared to before.
